Veterans Day
Happy Veterans Day, to my Father (pictured on the RIGHT at Pearl Harbor in January 1945) and to all Veterans.
My Dad was a US Navy Signalman during WW2, and did tell me last year that this picture was taken by Joe Rosenthal, who later became world famous for shooting the familiar Iwo Jima photograph of the five Marines and one Navy corpsman raising the Flag on that Pacific Island, just 10 days earlier.
Dad stated that Rosenthall identified himself that day in Hawaii (apparantly Rosenthall accompanied Iwo Jima soldiers back to Hawaii for a rest) and stated 'hey, you're the guys who raised the flag...' and took one picture of my Father & his friend Stan (on the left).
